What is SEO ?
\nSEO (Search Engine Optimization) might not be a new term for those having experience in blogging or other online ventures, but as I keep saying, this is a blog for newbies and I just want to explain everything from the basics.\n\r\nSearch Engine Optimization is a technique by which you can make your site more popular and visible in search engines so that the reputation, ranking and position of your website in search engine increases. This increases the number of visitors coming to your site from search engines and then finally the revenue fetched from your website.\n\r\nSearch Engine Optimization is done on many levels and with many techniques. In this post, I will be telling you the basics of SEO that you can implement at the time you start your blog. These tips will be very useful in Initial stages when you do not have pretty much posts and content on your blog. Once you have a decent amount of content on your blog, again I will share more SEO techniques and strategies later in my posts.\n\r\n
Steps of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for a new blog
\nSearch Engine Submissions : The very first step while doing SEO for a blog or website is to submit your website in search engines. Until your website is submitted to search engines, all the efforts you are making will not take effect. So you are advised to submit your website to search Engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and then wait for a couple of days so that the homepage of your website is indexed in Google. Once your home page is visible in Google , you can start to go ahead with further steps of SEO.\n\r\nSign-up for webmaster tools and submit xml sitemap : Once your website has been indexed in search engine, now you can sign up for webmaster tools (Google and Bing) and submit an XML sitemap to both these websites. There are many other online services, but I recommend just these 2 because these are the most popular ones in the market today. If you are using the WordPress blogging platform, then there are many plugins which will generate an XML sitemap for you and if you are using blogger, then you can check How to get XML sitemap for a blogger blog (A post written by me on my primary blog).\n\r\nUse popular SEO plugins : WordPress as well as Blogger, both have a great number of plugins which help you in indexing your posts quickly to search engines as well as to make it easy for search engines to get meta data of your blog post. One of the most recommended WordPress plugin for SEO is WordPress SEO by Yoast.\n\r\nInterlink your posts : In this post, you can see around 3-4 links which are pointing to my posts on different websites. This helps in a great way and it does increase the visibility as well as simplifies the navigation to all your pages on your blog. This also helps in passing link juice to the pages where you are linking your content to.\n\r\nJoin webmaster forums : There are hundreds of forums on the Internet where many bloggers and webmasters come and share their experiences and difficulties. Two of the best such forums are DigitalPoing and WarriorForums. Join these forums, add your links to your signature and start commenting on the posts over there. This helps you in learning new things as well as with every comment/post you get assured backlinks to your website. This can be really useful if you do it regularly.\n\r\nComment on websites in your niche : Figure out some of the websites which are related to your niche and then start commenting on their post. Always remember do not just exceed the limit of commenting, as bulk comment links can be penalized by Google and you might just lose all the hard work you have done on your blog. Once you write a productive comment, do not forget to leave your link.\n\r\nStart implementing these tips and do not forget to update your blog regularly with different blog posts. Keep the content flowing by writing new posts because search engines love the blogs which have a higher post frequency .\n\r\n
